In a Falling Film evaporator liquid feed enters at the top, flows downward inside the steam heated tubes in the form of a film, and leaves from the bottom. Vapour separated from the liquid is carried to the next effect for utilization as heating medium. |

| Vapour Recompression System |

The vapour is compressed to a higher condensation pressure temperature by means of either Thermal Vapour Recompression of Mechanical Vapour Recompression. A portion of vapour discharged from one effect is compressed by direct steam injection and the resulting mixture is used as the heating medium to bring down the specific steam consumption. In a MVR the Vapour generated is recompressed by mechanical means (using 2 stage blower) . |

The liquid feed is pumped into the steam heated tubes at an entering velocity of 2-6 m/s from the bottom. The liquid is superheated as the static head is reduced during flow from the heater to the vapour separator and it flashes into a mixture of vapour and liquid. Liquid returns to the pump inlet, where it is recirculated. Vapour leaves the top of the evaporator. This type of evaporator is ideal for concentration of viscous liquids with high specific gravity or that tend to form scaling. |

| RISING FILM EVAPORATOR |

In a rising Film Evaporator liquid feed enters the bottom of the steam heated tubes. The paralled movement of liquid and vapour along tube surface imparts effective water evaporation from the liquid feed. This type of evaporator is ideal for liquids which attain high viscosity or has fouling tendency. |
